Lesson 3
Bumps:
Goal:
How to absorb bumps and still look like you are killing it.
How:
It’s time to talk about Absorption.
To ride bumps and unforeseen situations while snowboarding, it helps to be relaxed in the knees and ankles.

STEP 1 :I want you to start thinking of your legs as car suspension. They should be relaxed and able to absorb different terrain on your snowboard.
You should start feeling your legs working separately but together at the same time.
STEP 2 :Flexion and Extension plays a major part in this already but I want you to become more consciously aware of the movements of your legs and how soft you really can be.
STEP 3 :Picture yourself being extremely light and floating across the snow.
When riding bumps or your find yourself in shit snow conditions, choose your line carefully, I like to ride 3-4 bumps then make a turn where the snow looks good and where the set up for the next turn looks easy!
STEP 4 :Control your speed by making a closed turn shape and really exaggerate that anticipation into the turn. When making tight small closed turns, conscious anticipation and foot peddling will help you get your snowboard around into the fall line quickly.
Or, if you have been practicing changing edges before the fall line, you can change edges even before you turn....Complete control!
Bumps are a great way to challenge your riding technique.
