Anticipation into the turn:
Lesson 5
Goal:
To use Rotational movements through the body to help steer our snowboard through the turn.

How:
Now we are getting into some advance snowboarding skills that you should implement and use in your everyday snowboarding.
Rotational movements exist around our vertical axis (our spine).
These movements are commonly referred to as steering movements, as they help in controlling the direction in where our board travels. (This why when learning a new technique, I get you too Look and point)
STEP 1 :
It is important we start to exaggerate the movement of anticipation when we are learning this technique.
STEP 2 :
The way we perform this is by rotating the upper body (Pointing) into the turn before our snowboard comes down into the fall line.
STEP 3 :
Remember to release the energy on your snowboard before doing this! (Extension)
STEP 4 :
As you come to your full extension before changing edges, really exaggerate the anticipation into the next turn with your leading shoulder, essentially, Look and point to where you want to go!
Same applies in to the next turn, really exaggerate the movement.
From now on I want you to focus on Flexion and extension timing with increased anticipation into the turn.
Never forget that without front foot pressure, anticipation alone wont turn the snowboard, it simply compliments the good edge pressure control you have already developed.
These movements combined will make you a master in no time.
Practice these movements for at least 3 days.
Here is an Exercise to try.
Have your back hand holding onto the side of your back leg pants and your front hand pointing into each turn as you go.

(Don't worry if you look weird, you will become better than 98% of snowboarders out there.)
