Lesson 3

Goal:

We need to learn how to do garlands because they teach us how to initiate the start and completion of a turn without actually changing edges.

WHY?

How:IMAGE OVERVIEW HEELS

Step 1 :We will start the garland in a Heel side Edge skidded traverse, heading across the hill with our leading foot.

Step 2 :Once you feel comfortable in the traverse we are now going to direct the snowboard down into the fall line.

To do this, make sure you're extended (flexion and extension) on your board and when you’re ready, start directing your board into the fall line.

Step 3 :Keep the weight on the front foot, head up and arm steering you down into the fall line, At the same time using your front foot to pivot the board to guide you as well. (be patient and let it come around)

Step 4 :Once your board is in the fall line, start steering it back across the hill by looking and pointing back across the hill. (Keep your weight on the front foot)

Make sure you keep the weight on the front foot, look and point. You should end up back in the traverse as when you started.
