Edged Arcs:

Goal:
To create a series of edged traverses, where the snowboard is angled progressively more towards the fall-line each time.

How:

STEP 1 :Start by making a gradual transition from a traverse across the hill, to a series of deeper arcs, which progressively increase in momentum.

STEP 2 :In each arc, practice rolling onto the uphill edge as speed is increased. Progressively edge with pressure and steer through the completion of the arc.

STEP 3 :Make sure to Keep COM over the board and do not Lean to create the edge angle.

Where:

The same terrain that was used in the edged traverses should be suitable. Remember that snow quality will also play a large part in the success of edging.

Exercise:

Practice this exercise until you can hold an edge and maintain balance over the uphill edge. Once you start to notice how our snowboard side-cut works to turn the snowboard, and how turn shape can be used to control our speed, you know you’ve got it!
