Lesson 3

Edged C turns:

Goal:
To be able to change edges before the fall line and maintain balance, control and pressure throughout the entire turn.

How:

STEP 1 :Start by making an edged traverse across and down the slope to gain momentum. Once travelling and you are ready to make the turn, Extend up and project your COM into the new turn and change edges before the snowboard enters the fall-line.

STEP 2 :Start looking and steering into the new turn while flexing down gradually over both feet, edge angle should be increased to eliminate any skidding. (If you're struggling to create efficient edge angle, try focusing on lifting your toes to the sky when you are on your heel edge and really pressing down on your toe edge when you are on your heel edge)

STEP 3 :Use the side cut of your snowboard to steer your board up the hill to a stop.

Where:

The same terrain that has been used for edged traverses and edged arcs should be suitable.

Exercise:

Practice this until you can change edges before the fall line and not fall over.
